Organized by The New Paper and Canon, the contest is open to all from the age of 16 to 35. The overall winner will have the chance to set his career path of being an official photojournalist, after serving an internship with The New Paper for 4 weeks as a training foundation. In addition, he or she will also get a dSLR system worth $5,000 which comprises of a Canon EOS 30D body, 430EX flash, 3 pro-grade prime lenses – 24mm F2.8, 50mm F1.8, and 100mm Macro F2.8 and the new Pro9000 A3-sized photo printer.
Contestants are required to submit 3 photos, one for each of the 3 themes Scenery, People and Action. No additional retouching is allowed except for colour correction, exposure correction, cropping, sharpening and resizing.
So far, I've chosen 3 of my best photos which I personally think suits in the themes. The top photo was taken during my recent Phuket trip. The middle was at Hard Rock Hotel in Bali, but taken with my Sony compact. The bottom was during a corporate soccer match. I'm not really confident though, since god knows there are much better photographers and photos out there submitted for the contest.
Anyway, Gum got her entry submitted, Amsyari is waiting for me to submit so I probably guess he'll be mad if he finds out, and Nat - I'm not really sure if she's interested in the contest anyway since her only ambition is to rule over the world with designer chemicals!!!
Met up with SK at Bukit Panjang Plaza to hand over the coloured sequential pieces. I guess he felt elated when he saw it. Had trouble with printing the 7 pages earlier in the morning. I actually had to go down to the store for the replacement inks 3 times; for the colours Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. The printer's status monitor is so damn unreliable. Although the printer's colour profile is not really in tune with the document's, I felt contented since I managed to finish it on time.
Soon after that met up with Dina at Hereen. Her boss is around so we didn't really have time to talk. She seemed more cheerful now, guess that now she's no longer single, and probably that makes her a better person. Felt happy for her anyway. By the way I waited for little more than half and hour to get to Somerset MRT since it was raining so heavily. Got drenched because I walked all the way, didn't even think about running since my slippers are so slippery! Rather get wet than pulling a stunt on the streets.
Got home, and brother needed to go out. At least dad got someone to look after at home. This morning dad went out alone again, but I realized only after I woke up. Thank god nothing happened.
Couldn't meet up with Nat at Starbucks NP, as well as the rest of the guys for 300. Maybe next time. By the way thanks Nat for the proof reading! Kisses!
After a hard day's work, I still can't get myself to sleep... at least not after playing some Prey. All the portals and gravity walkways were enough to put me into a state of nausea with an added pinch of brain aches. Nevertheless I felt like Prey is the first of its kind as a Cherokee inspired spiritual shooter for the Xbox 360.
Another photo outfield later at noon, and this time Dina will be joining the bandwagon. Amsyari will be around too, and perhaps if snapping photos don't quite fill in the whole of Monday, there's always the cinema.
I’m back home for the weekend. Reservist this year is a little laid back than the last, but it’s all too early to tell. There’s loads of cumbersome fun coming ahead in the coming weeks. Despite the familiar faces, met Aslam whom I’ve spent most of my childhood playtime with. Not to mention Wan and Kutil, my former bunkmates from Squad 10.
So much for the first two days, now I’m stuck at home listening to Journey. Gonna go down to Causeway Point later on, and maybe get some photography mags…
In the meantime, gonna prepare my stuff for tomorrow evening.
Kick off my shoes and get everything into the glass! Thanks to Amsyari, more pics can be viewed here...
While the rest of the boys went off to catch the match between Singapore and Selangor at the Kallang stadium, I took my Oly out to Peninsula Plaza with Amsyari. Splurge on a Konix macro lens kit and a UV lens protector. I guess it was a good investment, and perhaps I might get myself an ultra-wide next time around. Still, I can’t get enough of taking macro shots earlier on this afternoon since the sun was setting down real fast.
Settled down at Lau Pa Sat and
ordered 60 sticks of satay. I somehow outwit my stomach to gobble up 27
sticks. Guess it felt like Fear Factor, only palatable!
My eyes feel heavy, but I just can’t get myself to sleep. The twisting and turning is bothering me, so now here I am typing these very words. What’s worse, I need to go to work 3 hours from now. In the kitchen mum is preparing for sahur, dad is still asleep and my brother is beginning to realize that I’m online.
I managed to leave my butt at home for the last two days. I’ve passed jamming with the rest of the guys on Wednesday, and just yesterday Shafit got this plan to breakfast somewhere after inservice. Nevertheless, I decided to follow Rohaizad, Effendy and Khairi to the bazaar at Woodlands. Spent about $10 on food albeit the hard time on choosing what to buy. Too much variety for the tastebud to handle. I felt I could eat a whole cow.
Passed my digicam to Faris yesterday, since he wanted to borrow it. He never told me what for anyway. That thing have been rolled down to a few hands lately; Hashrin, Yan and now Faris. I don’t really mind that, as long as it’s well taken care of. Speaking of digicam, I’ve been thinking of upgrading to a digital SLR, if not something more versatile like the Lumix or Sony H1. Rohaizad got himself a Sony T7, got great symmetry.
I’m going to see what’s in the kitchen now, and maybe I can get some shut eye after that.
I felt it was like a reunion all over again. Faris came up with the idea to gather the boys again at Al-Majlis, just like we used to. I don’t mind all the "condemnation" that he bombarded me that night, it was for a good cause (we laughed our hearts out, right?). Unfortunately it wasn’t full strength, so there was like newlyweds Hashrin and Shila, Yan and Lys, Faris and myself. Maybe someday soon there will be Fiq, Ramadan, Irwan, Jasmin and Dina. I’m so looking forward to that.
I still find it unbelievable that I've traded (temporarily) my Adidas bubble watch with abang Rafi's Frogman (Petaling Street edition) ... guess I'm eager on the diving trip. Everything else is too soon to get planned due to the change of my shift pattern, nevertheless I'm looking on the bright side - the short working hours!
By the way updated my photostream.. Check!
