Straight to the point, it is about a space mission gone horribly wrong. Sunshine is a sci-fi movie directed by Danny Boyle with an international cast. A team of astronauts missioned to preclude the sun from dying completely by delivering a bomb on board their space ship the Icarus II . As an intended tragedy, the crew died one after another through mishaps from human error as well as sacrifice operations, not to mention by the hand of a mutated crew turned psychopath whom had abandoned the first mission 7 years ago. Nevertheless, the mission was successful but with zero survivors.
I've always loved science fiction movies, from Star Wars to The Abyss to the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have to say Sunshine is relatively plausible on the plot and it's audio visual treat is excellent. I wouldn't mind getting the DVD once it's available. An exhilarating concept altogether.
Read more about the film at www.sunshinedna.com. They're also auctioning off props from the film to the masses.
Despite that I'm a little tired after the soccer photo shoot this afternoon, I still manage to gather some of the guys for a night movie.
Primeval is sort of a frantic, violent portrayal of our natural predator at it's worst. The war between the government and the rebels in South Africa have contributed to the evolution of something more fearful and dangerous, something that the late Steve Irwin might be totally in disagree with. In similarity, I guess this movie is comparable to both the recent zombie franchise Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead, where most of the screen cast but the killer didn't really die. Rated R, and I guess it's only worth the buck for gore lovers.
I still need to catch 300 though. .
I've just signed-up for Bloglines. I felt it's terribly easier to centralise all the feeds that I read into a single location. I could do the Firefox's 'Live' bookmark but the bookmarks bars is already cluttered, so now I get to enjoy a cleaner browser.
And now Gum advises me not to catch The Heirloom... which makes The Da Vinci Code and Superman Returns being in my anticipation list.
And did I tell you that I worked my butt off yesterday and drooled excessively in my sleep this morning?
Off to watch Tiramisu...
I've always felt that I couldn't type a single line whenever my brother is around. He knows I have this, and I don't mind if he ever reads it (I think he doesn't).
Watching Colin Mochrie on television never fails to make me crack up.
Caught Ghost of Mae Nak last night. Why is it always sequels have to be a disappointment? The ghost looks corny enough not to make me jump (if not my popcorn), and the only scary highlight - no, make it gross... is when the guy got literally sliced into half by a falling glass pane. Maybe I'll try The Heirloom this week.

Shafit's pearly whites...
I admit, I jumped a few times in my seat while watching The Maid. Shafit was the one who spotted me, what’s worse at one time when the popcorn flew all over. That’s ok, I don't mind being the scapegoat for being wimpy.. at least for this movie.
Despite the poor reviews on magazines or anywhere you might have read, the reason I particularly like The Maid is because it has something we can relate too, as Singaporeans. We all know about the month, the reason hell money are burnt, and its taboos. Nevertheless, some audience might think the storyline is a bit of a crap, but I would recommend it to any die-hard Asian horror fans, like myself. Now whenever I’m on my way home only to see the ashes of hell money scattered in places along my void deck, I can’t help but to recall the creepy scenes from the movie. Yikes!
As an added note, I think Alessandro is like a peach on a little red wagon.
Was browsing The Newpaper today (unfortunately I couldn’t recall which day the paper was dated) when I came across an article by Art Fazil. Theory has it that Jack The Ripper could be a Mat – a malay cook to be exact whom worked onboard ships during the 1800s. Shocking. After some web research I’ve discovered a slew of casebooks that attest the theory. You can read one of them in Crime Library.
Time seems like flying at godspeed, congrats to newlyweds Sharil and Hazean. Just five years ago Sharil and I were merely recruits in our BMT at Tracom, now he's got a new responsiblity to bear - all the best wishes for them. I really enjoyed doing the whole photo thingy for them, although I felt more like Shasila's caddy.

Sharil and Hazean

I am not this guy's caddy!
Come September the 11th, it'll be Gaz's and Sharifah's turn. Haha.. I
saw the look on Gaz's face when Sharil took the solemnization. He's
freaking out already!

"Yikes! Next month is my turn!"
We didnt go home after that, instead caught Naina with the Midnite Legs
at Causewaypoint last night. I wouldnt say the movie is original, seems
like it got elements from several horror movies we might come to know
such as Sixth Sense; to Japanese thrillers like Darkwater and Ringu. I
have to applause for Urmila Martondka's performance, she is hysterical
with a capital 'H'.
Next will be The Maid. Almost went down to CP again to catch it, untill I realised today is actually Sunday. Thank god I check the schedule on Yahoo Movies. Poor Effendie, he came down only to realise all the counters are closed. That's worse than me.
Today will be just another workday on a weekend, but at least I’ll let myself loose for the next two days. Sunday’s plan is canceled, and honestly I really cannot be bothered anymore. Guess I’ll have the whole day to myself, but that’s okay because I have certain things that I’ve been dying to do since the past few weeks!
Caught Red Candy the other day with the rest of the blokes. I realized there’s an indisputable repeating trend in japanese horror movies. Why does it always have to involve a child whose been revivified into demons or its equivalent? Ju-On, Ringu, Dark Water and Red Candy. Nevertheless, I have to applause for each of the movie’s skillful art of creating sounds and pictography that can really make the audience jump. At least my popcorn did jump.
Caught a late night movie with some friends. Almost forgot about it altogether. I was about to enjoy my Mee Soto with the rest down at Transit when Sharifah and Fendi messaged me.
"Will you be joining us?"
I was almost clueless, and suddenly after the conversation on the phone I’ve finally realized that I need to rush. Immediately I passed the noodle to Faris. After a few rejects he’d finally accepted it, as if the gesture was meant to be an act of ‘proper’. Anyway I felt that I could make it, since I’ve got another 35 minutes.
Thank god Land of the Dead is not so senseless. In this 4th installment, the only thing that is comparable to Dawn is its use of armored vehicle as the primary arsenal for the agitating zombies. Nevertheless, I applause for George A. Romero’s writing for the movie and special fx is no less awesome. Be warned though, this movie is ultra violent.
By the way, I’m surprised that the filming for Da Vinci Code is in the pipeline. Among actors are Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, Audrey Tautao as Sophie and John Leno as French detective Bezu Fache.
Would you believe that after doing more than 12 hours of night shift I
didn't even care to look at my bed after reaching home in the morning?
Instead, I spent the noon watching League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Dr. Jekyll's evil half whose triple his size looked crookedly fearsome.
The rest of the movie went quite average. Got my hands dirty replacing
the kitchen tap in the afternoon, shifted my AV receiver and speakers a
bit and moved the bulky subwoofer on the TV cabinet. The wires got a
little messed up so I bought those wire tamers at Handifix. There's
still a lot of cleaning up to do, but I don't think I'll have the time
to do it tomorrow though. At this point of time however, the drowsiness
catching up on me
